With Communion time just around the corner, a lot of mothers are trying to find that perfect dress for their little princess to wear on this important day. Not only does it have to be affordable and appropriate to the moms. It also has to be comfortable and beautiful enough for their daughter to wear. And let’s be honest, a mother/daughter agreeing on the same fashion taste may not always be the easiest thing to do. Especially since majority of churches have their own dress code guidelines.
I went to private school my whole life, and had a set uniform. When it came down to making my First Communion I was so excited because I thought I’d finally be able to wear something I like. That wasn’t the case. I was making it in the summer, June to be exact. For those of you who live in California, you know how hot it can get during that time. Unfortunately for the girls making it along with me, we were told we were not allowed to wear spaghetti strap, nor sleeveless dresses. So there I was, in a long sleeve (with shoulder pads), pantyhose so that the crinoline wouldn’t itch my legs, poufy dress in the middle of June in 90 plus degree weather. It wasn’t exactly what I had pictured my special day to be. I remember getting home from church and changing.
Young girls have many options now a days and churches are being reasonable and allowing girls to wear spaghetti strap dresses BUT with a shawl or bolero for the Mass part, which is understandable. They can pick from tea length to ankle length, sequins or embroidered, sleeveless or cap sleeved. Majority of the Communion Dresses come with crinoline followed by smooth material that touches the leg instead of having to deal with the scratchy material on the legs. It’s the detail on the dress that I think makes it stand out. You can get a simple A-Line dress with just enough detail on the bodice to make it stand out like our style LSP947-WT. Or go for a more extravagant look with our D3130-WT that has embroidery all around the dress. If you really want your daughter to shine all night, then you’ll defiantly like our LSP927-WT which has rhinestone detail on the bodice.
With so many selections in Communion Dresses that we offer, we’re sure coming to an agreement on what you like and what your daughter wants, won’t be a hassle.
It’s that time of year. Yes, it can be a crazy event plan as it may demand as much time and effort as a wedding, if not more. Families are gathered from everywhere, and the little details such as food catering, photography, etc are just a minor part of the big picture. And what about the First Communion dress? The oohs and aahs received when your little girl first puts it on can be as important as the event itself. Let’s not kid ourselves. We all need the find the perfect communion dress. Not just one that mommy and daddy like, but one that hers truly will approve as well. This can be one difficult task as we all know. It’s either too short, top dressy, not covered enough on top, not fancy enough. You name it and there will always be a problem. For 2010, we decided to go simple, yet elegant. Our new First Communion dress styles are not as flashy, yet make a bold statement. See for yourself.
White can be right for you but every shade of white isn’t right for everyone. There are hundreds of shades of white. Certain whites can be more complimentary to one skin tone than another. Not every combination in the ‘white’ spectrum will work well together.
The manner in which any fabric – natural, blend, or synthetic – reflects or absorbs light depends on its fiber content. A fabric’s fiber can cause a considerable difference in the appearance of white. Silk white, which is never a brilliant white, is naturally made by silkworms and owes its shade to its origin.
With brilliant white at one end of the spectrum and cream at the other, in between, there are numerous shades and variations of each white. Everyone can find their perfect ‘white’ among the eight most popular shades. When you recognize the shades of white and know which one works for your skin tone, you can always choose the best ‘white’ for you.
8 Most Popular Shades Of White
1. Brilliant White
Brilliant white is a bright, crisp white. It looks great with dark skin. Brilliant white is found in many fabrics including cotton and polyester. Since brilliant white looks stunning in sunlight, this shade is perfect for a beach wedding. A brilliant white wedding dress will really stand out if the bridesmaids and flower girl are in bold colors.

With “My Communion Dress,” I hope to share some of my memories. Hopefully, you too will be reminded of beautiful memories and “your” communion dress. Sometimes these dresses even have shared memories attached to the organza and lace.
A mother’s wedding dress can receive a new life and be transformed into her daughter’s communion dress. First Communion dresses may also be passed down from mother to daughter. Within some families, dresses pass traditionally between sisters.
The celebration, however, is “your” special day. The dress and the day belong to you. The memories will stay with you forever. Everyone has a special memory – maybe funny, maybe inspiring, maybe sweet, but always at least one vivid recollection.
On that special day, memories seem to permeate every delicate stitch of the communion dress. Every little girl has been prepared for the celebration. The significance of the religious ceremony doesn’t escape them. Yet that dress also has that “little princess” appeal.
I still can remember my amazement at the incredibly light fabric. Tiny sparkling appliques remain bigger than life in my memory. The flowing veil and circle of flowers – and even more sparkles – made me feel like a “little princess” for a day. I had always played “princess” and this day was my chance to be one
I understood the religious importance of the day. I was also honored and pleased to be receiving the Eucharist. Yet for a little girl who liked to play princess, the dress itself made a very lasting impression.
I’m not alone, however, in having vivid memories of my communion dress. Numerous books, blogs, forums, and websites are devoted to the sole subject of First Communion. “Remembering your communion dress” is often a featured discussion topic in forums.
Mothers remember the joy and then share it again with their daughters. My dress was given to a family member sometime over the years. My daughter wore a “shared memory” dress from another family member. I added a few extra personal touches – including a white silk flower – to make it “her” dress.
Today’s communion dress retailers can help you create unique dresses. You can choose from several styles of dresses. You can then create an unique look by adding sashes and detachable flowers. Customized fashion is possible by choosing “Create Your Dress” options.
My communion dress, my daughter’s dress, and your dress made special memories. We received, however, something more special on that day – the Eucharist. “The Eucharist is the Sacrament of Love, it signifies Love, it produces Love.” ~ St. Thomas Aquinas
